Marketing for Attorneys, Facebook, and Spies

In a September 28, 2008 article of interest in the marketing for attorneys world, Yahoo! News reported that MI6, which is Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, is using Facebook in an effort to recruit new agents.  Thus, MI6 began running advertisements on Facebook - as well as on radio and in the newspapers - several weeks ago.  The article did not specify whether the Facebook ads have been effective in recruiting spies.

MI6 is just another example of how social networks like Facebook have become mainstream as a means of doing business.  I have personally run ads on Facebook and had some success in promoting my book, Overcoming the 6-Minute Life: How and Why the Legal Profession should Free Itself from Billable Hours (Musings on Careers in Law).  For Internet marketing for attorneys, Facebook ads make sense because they are highly targeted.  Thus, for example, one can choose to have an ad appear solely for lawyers on Facebook in the Northeast or on the West Coast.

Those involved with Internet marketing for lawyers and marketing for law firms should be active on Facebook and find ways to use Facebook as a marketing tool.  As Facebook continues to grow, its power and influence are increasing.
