Blogging Protection in Marketing for Attorneys?

In an event of interest to those in the marketing for attorneys space, the Media Bloggers Association on September 18, 2008 announced the launch of a program to provide financial and legal support to bloggers.  Such support will include BlogInsure, a unique liability insurance program for bloggers providing coverage for copyright infringement, defamation and invasion of privacy.

Also available is an online course addressing media law.  The President and Co-Founder of the Media Bloggers Association noted that there were very few bloggers in 2000, but that the number of bloggers today is in the tens of millions, and that bloggers have been the first to report on significant news stories.  He also noted that bloggers have received press credentials.  As a result of the success of blogging, he noted, bloggers need more legal protection.  The online media law course is apparently free of charge, even to those who are not part of the Media Bloggers Association.

Bloggers who choose media liability coverage will also have access to a hotline through which they will be able to have their questions answered regarding media law.  The hotline was set up by the law firm of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.  Membership in the Media Bloggers Association costs $25 on an annual basis.

Bloggers in the internet marketing for attorneys realm should at least be aware of the risks and pitfalls that come with the territory.  Thus, those engaged in internet marketing for lawyers should consider taking the Media Bloggers Association online media course.  Since membership in the Association is relatively cheap, one may want to consider joining.  Of course, legal bloggers may not face the same risks as media bloggers.  Becoming aware of the legal landscape for media bloggers, however, is not a bad idea.
